Thank you for visiting my website and learning a little bit about me!

I love sharing my herbalism journey with others because most people can generally find a connection point regarding their own stories, and maybe you can relate to my experiences. Health & wellness have been a critical part of my life since I was young. It started when my older sister was diagnosed with cancer (osteosarcoma) when I was 11 years old and she was 12. Shantelle had gone through 5 years of surgeries and chemotherapy, but the cancer kept coming back. She passed away when she was 17 years old. After this, I became interested in learning more about natural medicine and healthcare, having witnessed that the conventional, western healthcare system had not saved my sister's life. I also personally began noticing my own doctor wanting to prescribe me medication for every issue. I was constantly pressured into taking birth control medicine, which I continually refused, and I was prescribed an anti-depressant/anti-anxiety medication, Zoloft, when I was 13 years old. This was prescribed to me due to my stress at school, which definitely had it's root in my home life/family life from my sister going through many surgeries and chemotherapy sessions. This medication made me feel like a zombie/numb, and I finally stopped taking this prescription when my grandfather had died and I didn't feel sad at all and didn't cry - then I knew this medication was suppressing all my emotions. I realized that something was really wrong about our society's way of dealing with health problems.

When I was in college, I began seeking out alternative & holistic medicine, mostly in the form of plants - herbs & spices, natural foods, etc. I was on a mission to find ways for dealing with stress, pain, inflammation, something that would help with my acne and menstrual cramps! During that time, I began to deeply question the basis of our medical system after a conversation with a doctor at my college's health clinic. I told her that I didn't want to take any medication for acne and had started to drink dandelion root tea to help with my skin issues. She responded, "You should be careful doing that because we don't have any long term studies to determine if that is safe or not." I immediately thought that there was something very wrong with our health system because she was questioning my use of drinking herbal tea. I came to understand that humans have been using plant & natural medicines for thousands of years, yet modern medicine was disregarding any validity of these natural rememdies unless the scientific community were to conduct long-term studies.

Through all of the research and experimentation on myself over the years with natural remedies - from lemon, ginger, and honey tea for colds to using raw garlic for yeast infections - I was finally understanding how humans can be in balance with their bodies by using the natural gifts that God has provided on our earth. I no longer refilled my prescription of Naproxen for menstrual cramps, or used the harsh acne creams. I started learning more about nutrition and whole foods and started listening to the experts in basics like exercise, sleep hygiene, stress management, brain health and everything in between. I started taking online herbalism courses, and a friend told me about an herbal apprenticeship program at Greenwood Herbals in Limerick, Maine. I was so excited to learn in person from an experienced herbalist! After that program, I enrolled in the Clinical Herbalism Program the next year. I received a certificate for Clinical Herbalism in the summer of 2024. I am now offering herbal consultations to those in my community, as well as making herbal products to sell.
